A national careers event aimed at helping members of the Armed Forces Community (AFC) find new post-duty roles kicks off this month in Yeovilton.

Military2Defence aims to connect defense industry employers with service leavers who wish to start a new career in the sector. The inaugural Insight Day, taking place at RNAS Yeovilton’s Swordfish Conference Center on Thursday 26th January, will offer attendees from all sectors of the Armed Forces community the opportunity to meet representatives from a range of the UK’s leading defense employers and to discover something more about a career in the defense industry.

Military2Defence is the second sector-specific arm of the British Forces Resettlement Service (BFRS), following the successful launch of Military2Construction in November 2022.

BFRS is a leading social enterprise dedicated to helping members of the Armed Forces community re-integrate into life outside of military service by helping them find employment or training opportunities with Forces-friendly employers – many of whom comply with the Armed Forces Covenant have joined. BFRS works with a broad portfolio of companies across a variety of industries to offer a range of mail service opportunities for the Armed Forces community.

In addition to providing support and advice to service leavers themselves, BFRS works with veterans, reservists and military families, assisting and guiding the entire community through a smooth relocation transition.

BFRS is proud to announce that this event is sponsored by The Morson Group, who have a very commendable track record of supporting ex-forces.

Rob Wagstaff:

After serving in the military for over 30 years, he decided to give up his uniform to settle down in civilian life, and thanks to Wincanton, his journey there was eased.

Below we have a short interview with Rob where he explains why he decided now is the time for him to take the plunge and start his relocation.

“I left the military in March 2022. I was very nervous to leave the security that the military offers after 30 years but was fortunate to already have a position at Wincanton which has been great for me into civilian employment.”

“Stand up! The armed forces will instill you with a fantastic work ethic and a range of skills that are largely transferrable to civilian life. Also, don’t be afraid to use your military contacts, most companies have service personnel who will be happy to reach you and help you with the transition to civilian life.”

BFRS loves hearing as many success stories as possible and it’s always a pleasure to work with companies like Wincanton who consistently support members of the Armed Forces community.

Harry Dean, Founder and CEO of BFRS says:

“We hold many events throughout the year. They are so important because some members of the armed forces have served longer than others and some have far greater difficulties than others in making the transition from military to civilian life.”

“These events provide an excellent platform to see what’s out there; what skills and qualities are transferrable and what type of career is available when they leave the armed forces.

“Once you start looking around and seeing what’s out there and looking at what skills you have, you can start to build your confidence and see how you can be an asset to a company.”

ABOUT BFRS:

As a social enterprise, BFRS provides services to solve social problems and improve the life chances of the Bundeswehr community. The key is to know that military resettlement is more than just a short period of retirement and that it is not just regular armed forces personnel that are affected. As such, all of the services BFRS renders are open to Service Leavers, Reserve Forces, Veterans, MOD civilian employees, and partners and families, and it doesn’t matter how long or when people have served.

Please note:
BFRS is a social enterprise organization, not a registered charity.
