Before starting his professional journey, Mr. Buell earned a Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Subsequently, he expanded his considerable knowledge, earning a Master of Science in mineral economics. He wrote the thesis, “Leading Indicators of United States of Oil and Gas Drilling Activity.” A year later, he graduated from his alma mater for a third time with a Master of Science in petroleum engineering. Through his second graduate degree, he conducted his thesis on “Analyzing Injectivity of Non-Newtonian Fluids: An Application of the Hall Plot.” Additionally, Mr. Buell became certified as a decision analysis expert and coach, a registered professional engineer, and a certified API Q1/ISO 9001 auditor and inspector.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Buell aligns himself with the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is dedicated to his community and volunteers with Planned Parenthood and the Freedom from Religion Foundation. Backed by his professional knowledge, he has contributed to numerous papers and presentations, including “Horizontal-Steam-Injection-Flow Profiling Using Fiber Optics,” ‘Operating with Integrity and Excellence in the Oilfield,” “Waterblasting for Scale Removal in the Rangely Weber Sand Unit,” and “The Application of the Cubic and Quadratic Forchheimer Equations in the Design of High Rate Gravel Packed Gas Well Completions.”
While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Buell takes the most pride in his dedication and drive, putting seven children through college and becoming a pioneer in fiber optic. On a personal level, he has been working on a challenge called “the 28,” which involves running marathons on all seven continents, completing the Abbott six-star challenge, cycling and skiing on all seven continents, and climbing the highest peaks on every continent except Everest.
