NEW YORK, NY, February 07, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Ricardo Montealto has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With more than two decades of excellence in business development and finance for the metals and mining industry, Mr. Montealto has earned distinction as the global head of strategy, corporate development and mergers and acquisitions for Vale. Having joined the company in 2020 as a group executive for the strategy team, since 2023 he has focused his efforts on collaborating with the management board and board of directors on exploration operations and commercial innovation, ensuring all parties are aligned on the decisions they are making for the business. Notably, he successfully initiated the spin-off of their base metals division in Canada, creating a new company with a new governance structure and inviting globally renowned executives, such as Mark Cutifani from Anglo American and Jerome Guillen of Tesla, to join the board.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Montealto began his career as a trainee with Fundação Getulio Vargas in Brazil in 1997 and worked in strategy and mergers and acquisitions for Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional in 1999. During his tenure, he was able to participate in the acquisition of several assets including rolling facilities in Indiana and Portugal. Following this time, he served as an associate partner with McKinsey & Co. in 2005 and was a core member of the basic materials practice. He then took a role as the vice president of metals and mining consulting for Wood Mackenzie in 2012, helping the Ecuadorian and the Egyptian government enter the mining sector by guiding them in changing the country’s fiscal regime, constitution and laws to attract more foreign investors.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Montealto earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Universidad Federal de Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in 1999. Following this achievement, he attained a master’s degree in strategy from the Graduate Institute of Business Administration, the UFRJ Business School in Brazil, as well as a Master of Business Administration from the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in 2002.
Within the coming years, Mr. Montealto intends to continue to excel in his field as well as to gain extensive exposure to critical minerals, which he believes are essential in facilitating energy transition. As part of this work, he plans to hone his focus on metals and minerals such as battery raw materials, lithium, copper, nickel, graphite, cobalt and others that are crucial for the electrification of vehicles and other devices. He is also currently working on reimagining the mining industry, aiming to bring positive changes to an industry that has long needed a fresh perspective on more sustainable and responsible mining practices.
