LITTLETON, CO, August 23, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Richard J. Long, P.E., P. Eng., has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A seasoned chemical engineer and construction claims expert with over 50 years of expertise in chemical and process engineering, construction, construction and insurance claims, project management, risk analysis, and more, Mr. Long excels as the founder in 1996 of the eponymous Long International, Inc., a project management and construction claims consulting firm based in Littleton, Colorado. In this capacity, he provides owners, engineering and construction firms, contractors, and law firms representing these parties with expertise in resolving contractual disputes associated with petroleum refining, petrochemical, oil and gas, LNG, power/co-generation, mineral processing, industrial, building, and infrastructure projects worldwide. With over five decades of U.S. and international experience, he has consistently analyzed and resolved complex construction disputes, working as a technical, project management, cost, schedule delay, and loss of productivity expert on over 500 projects with contract disputes ranging in size from $100,000 to over $2 billion. Due to his vast knowledge, Mr. Long has also testified in litigation and domestic and international arbitrations. He has also served as a tribunal-appointed expert in international arbitration.

An expert in his field, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1970 and a Master of Science in Chemical and Petroleum Refining Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines four years later. Subsequently, Mr. Long expanded his professional knowledge by becoming a registered professional engineer in Colorado and a licensed professional engineer in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Before establishing his company, Mr. Long worked as a process engineer for Conoco, Fluor Corporation, and Tosco Corporation, designing oil refineries and developing oil shale technology to capture the vast hydrocarbon deposits in western Colorado and Utah. He then utilized his engineering and project management skills to become a Principal and lead expert for several large construction claims consulting firms. Mr. Long then was appointed the senior vice president responsible for resolving construction claims for a major electrical and mechanical contractor. As a head executive, he oversaw technical matters and construction claims resolutions and developed, trained, and implemented the contractor’s project management policies and procedures.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Long aligns himself with several industry organizations, including AACE International, the Society of Construction Law, the Project Management Institute, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. In addition to his professional and educational endeavors, he has also dedicated himself to charities associated with children with disabilities and heart diseases. Mr. Long has authored and co-authored two textbooks and written over 100 articles in industry publications throughout his career.

While Mr. Long’s career is filled with numerous accomplishments, he takes the most pride in his international reputation as a leading industry expert, particularly in resolving construction contract disputes on industrial process plant projects such as oil refineries, chemical plants, LNG plants, petrochemical plants, power plants, and offshore oil and gas production facilities. His extensive chemical and process engineering background in developing new process plant technology and designing and managing process plant projects enables him to efficiently analyze project management, technical, change management, cost, and schedule delay problems on these types of projects. His success, he believes, is a result of his attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to effectively communicate through writing, especially in expert reports, and bringing into his company experts in these fields to enable his firm to take on large, complex projects in over 70 counties and throughout the United States. Looking ahead, Mr. Long is optimistic about the future. He intends to continue supporting individuals within the company who aspire to become experts in their careers. As long as he finds joy in his work and maintains good health, he is committed to experiencing further success in his career.
