Mr. Theokas is a distinguished attorney and the president of Theokas Law Firm, PC, where he has served since 2010. With a career spanning over five decades, he has established himself as an expert in civil practice. His legal acumen is particularly noted for his success in criminal court cases, including a notable lawsuit against the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners that led to significant procedural changes. Additionally, he is very proud of making a motion for appropriate relief, which received high praise from Superior Court Judge Todd Pomeroy.
Before his tenure at Theokas Law Firm, Mr. Theokas was the chairman of the flight training department at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University from 1999 to 2006. In this role, he managed 140 instructor pilots and 1,400 students while overseeing and delegating a substantial budget.
His leadership in aviation education followed an illustrious military career in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1995. During his service, he held various positions, such as pilot, instructor pilot, evaluator pilot, chief pilot, operations officer, unit commander, staff officer, group commander and director of operations training. One of his most significant achievements was serving as a staff officer at the European Command headquarters during the Gulf War in 1990.
Mr. Theokas earned a Juris Doctor from Mercer University School of Law in 1998 and completed doctoral-level coursework with an emphasis on strategic issues at the Air War College in 1989. He also holds a Master of Public Administration from Webster University and a Bachelor of Arts in Germanic languages, literature and linguistics from Union College. Additionally, he is certified in air force squadron operations and management by the Squadron Officer School.
Mr. Theokas’ affiliations include membership in the Order of Daedalians and the Air & Space Forces Association. He is also civically involved as an assistant district governor for the Rotary Club and is actively engaged with organizations, such as the 5th ORP and 7th ORP Heavy Armored units. Beyond these roles, he dedicates considerable time to pro bono work for clients who cannot afford legal services.
Mr. Theokas has been recognized with several awards throughout his career, including the prestigious Legion of Merit from the U.S. Air Force. Reflecting on his professional life, he attributes much of his success to the values instilled by his parents: compassion from his mother and determination from his father.
In his personal life, Mr. Theokas enjoys singing with a barbershop chorus. Despite facing significant health challenges, including paraplegia and a stroke in 2019, he has demonstrated remarkable resilience by regaining his ability to walk. Looking ahead, he is determined to run another marathon despite experiencing plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
