Inspired by his grandfather and uncle to enter the field, Dr. Hoffler earned a Bachelor of Arts in pre-medicine from Hampton University in 1967. Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge, completing his MD at Meharry Medical College. During the early stages of his career, he gained valuable expertise in private practice, where he oversaw and supervised the healthcare of over 2,000 patients. A seasoned internal medicine physician, Dr. Hoffler retired from his role as a physician at the local VA Medical Center in 2011.

While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in his 21-year tenure at the VA Medical Center, during which he had the opportunity to work with veterans, including those struggling with addiction. Other standout moments in Dr. Hoffler’s career include retiring from the VA because he was healthy enough to do so.

Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Dr. Hoffler credits his success to his determination to overcome financial, discrimination, and racial barriers. Similarly, he had three mentors who greatly influenced him: Dr. Bun, his uncle Bill, and his grandfather. Looking ahead, he intends to continue enjoying his retirement. Ultimately, Dr. Hoffler would like to travel more and visit his daughter in Florida.
