Mr. Church, a distinguished nursing leader and hospital administrator with decades of experience, has significantly contributed to health care administration and nursing leadership. He currently serves as the Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer at SBH Health System in the Bronx, NY, where he oversees various departments within a hospital setting. His role is akin to that of a company’s chief executive officer or chief operating officer. He supervises approximately 1,000 nursing staff members, including registered nurses, nursing assistants, and technicians. Additionally, he oversees the respiratory therapy department, infection control, housekeeping, and patient transport.

Mr. Church’s career journey is marked by numerous trauma/critical care and emergency nursing leadership roles. Most notably, as the Nursing Director of Trauma and Critical Care during 9/11, he organized the triaging, decontamination, and response plan for a level 1 trauma center during the evacuation of Manhattan. Since 2016, he has been the Chief Nursing Officer & Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services at SBH Health System. In this capacity, he successfully led and navigated the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating unwavering commitment and resilience.

In addition to his current roles, Mr. Church has held several notable positions within professional organizations. He is currently the President-elect of the New York Organization for Nursing Leadership (NYONL). Before this role, he also served as the secretary and executive board member of NYONL from 2022 to 2023, and as president of the Greater New York, Nassau, Suffolk Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders region between 2019 and 2021. His earlier career includes roles such as adjunct professor at Seton Hall University from 2012 until 2014 and director of the emergency department at Hunterdon Medical Center from 2006 to 2014. He also served as the assistant vice president of trauma and emergency services at Lutheran Medical Center (now NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn) between 2000 and 2005.

His academic achievements have played a crucial part in Mr. Church’s professional success. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Adelphi University in 1989 and a Master of Science in trauma critical care nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in 1996. He subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey-Newark, in 2011. His certifications include being a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and Nurse Executive Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Throughout his career, Mr. Church has been influenced by valuable mentors and collaborative opportunities within the health care sector. These interactions with fellow nurses, physicians, and social workers have significantly contributed to his success. After starting his career as a staff nurse in trauma critical care, he pursued advanced degrees. He transitioned into positions such as nurse educator and clinical nurse specialist before moving into management roles.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Church is actively involved in civic-minded organizations. He served as the coordinator for Safe Kids Westchester-Rockland and received recognition from the nursing honor society, Sigma Theta Tau, in 2020 for his contributions to nursing leadership.

Mr. Church’s dedication to health care administration and nursing leadership exemplifies his commitment to excellence in patient care and organizational management.
