SPERRYVILLE, VA, April 18, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Roger Pierson has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After starting his professional career as an electronics technician for Pulse Communications Inc., Mr. Pierson joined Geotronics, Inc. as the quality assurance and production supervisor. Between 1976 and 1977, he supervised the manufacturing and testing of military radio frequency equipment. Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge as an electronics technician with Unified International Inc. and as a test engineer for Acuity Systems Inc. Driven to further his industry knowledge, Mr. Pierson received a Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of Maryland in 1984.

Upon graduating, Mr. Pierson joined the University of Maryland as a computer engineer in the Computer Science Department. From 1987 until his retirement in 2024, he excelled as a senior engineer with the University Research Foundation, where he specialized in the design of high-speed digital circuitry. During his tenure with the foundation, he developed a network and methodology to quickly and accurately sort information from military aircraft, which ensured that pilots received crucial mission-planning data. He also installed recorders for F-18 aircraft, focused on muzzle flash detection, created methods for identifying snipers using infrared signatures, and managed a twin Cessna aircraft that was used for testing Enhanced Vision Systems.

To stay abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Pierson aligns himself with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Outside work, he contributes to the Boy Scouts of America and the Washington Baptist Church. Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, he has contributed to such publications as “Analysis of Flashes Recorded by an Infrared Sensor,” “Long Wave Infrared Muzzle Flash Duration Experiment Test Report,” and “Status and Performance of the Zmob Parallel Processing System.” Alongside other industry scholars, Mr. Pierson also obtained a patent for an ultra-high-speed data collection, processing, and distribution ring with parallel data paths between nodes.

In light of his professional achievements, Mr. Pierson received the Vigil Honor conferred by the Order of the Arrow, the honor society of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Community Builders Award from the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free, and Accepted Masons of the Commonwealth of Virginia. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in overseeing a twin Cessna aircraft for testing Enhanced Vision Systems. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to his teachers and his training as a Boy Scout. After having visited the highest point in each of the 50 United States, and climbing in the Himalaya of Nepal, Mr. Pierson looks forward to completing the entire Appalachian Trail and perhaps climbing Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica.
