Dr. Palmieri has led a long and successful career in education and translation services that has spanned over four decades. Beginning as a college English teacher at Brown University in 1978, he pivoted by joining ACME Court Reporting in Washington, D.C., before being recruited by the U.S. Department of Defense in 1985 as a translator of reporter. Working for the federal government for nearly 15 years before retiring in 1999, he was responsible for reading information from abroad in various languages, collecting information and writing reports based on materials from various U.S. government agencies, and occasionally working in top secret locations.

Although he has since concluded his career with the government, Dr. Palmieri remains active in his field as a self-employed translator since 1999. He is presently learning his 17th language. Throughout his career, he has learned how to read and speak other languages by studying grammar books and reading books in foreign languages with the assistance of a dictionary. Dr. Palmieri certified a three-tier testing system that he designed and uses every time he learns about new languages.

Among other career accomplishments, Dr. Palmieri has found success as an amateur filmmaker, producing “Poets for Planet X” in 1995, a short comedy called “Dick/Who” in 1996, and several other short and feature films. Looking toward future endeavors, he aims to maintain interest in both books and movies and plans to complete his upcoming book, “Power and Revolution: Surveying and Tracking the Films of Miklós Jancsó.” Dr. Palmieri attributes his success to his passion for film, cinema, literature, and language.

Highly educated, Dr. Palmieri graduated from his high school as valedictorian of his class in 1972. He subsequently received a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature, magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 1976 and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in English language and literature from Brown University in 1981 and 1984, respectively. Dr. Palmieri also received language expert certifications in Italian, Albanian, Serbian-Croatian, Modern Greek, German, French, and Bulgarian. He remains active in his professional field as a member of the Modern Language Association.
