Ms. Altamura-Roll has dedicated over four decades to the field of counseling, establishing herself as a prominent expert in addiction. Since 2000, she has been the owner and licensed professional counselor at Ruth Altamura-Roll, MA, NCC, LPC in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. In this role, she counsels and coaches up to nine clients a day, which includes scheduling and conducting intake interview. Her commitment to helping those struggling with emotional challenges is deeply rooted in her personal experiences of witnessing the devastating spiritual, physical, emotional and financial effects of addiction on families and individuals.
Prior to owning her private practice, Ms. Altamura-Roll held significant roles in the drug and alcohol recovery field, serving as chief operating officer in long-term treatment and program director and executive director at a halfway house for women. Her expertise in addiction has been recognized with her involvement with the New Jersey Task Force on Woman and Alcohol, President of the New Jersey Mental Health Counselors Association, Member of the New Jersey Counseling Association, The American Counseling Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors. She is also an active member of the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International.
Ms. Altamura-Roll’s academic background laid a strong foundation for her career achievements. She earned a Master of Arts in counseling and personnel services from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) in 1992 and a Bachelor of Arts in history and religion from Moravian University in 1979. Her credentials also include being a licensed professional counselor through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and a national certified counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors Inc.
Ms. Altamura-Roll’s contributions to the field have been recognized with various awards, such as the Most Informative Award for “Counselors Chat” from Hunterdon Chamber Radio in 2016, Customer Care Award from the American Counseling Association in 2015, and an award from the American Counseling Association. Furthermore, she is also a published author, having released her novel “Tangled Hearts” through Dorrance Publishing Co. in 2021. She also hosted “Counselors Chat,” a radio talk show on Hunterdon Chamber Radio from 2010 to 2012, where she shared insights on mental health topics.
Civically involved, Ms. Altamura-Roll is a member of Tres Dias International and is involved with her church community. Other hobbies in her personal life include writing, attending book signings, gardening, cooking, playing piano and singing in the choir. She is a member of the 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, a Civil War re-enacting unit, along with her husband Steven Roll. Steven is also a counselor and works with the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs. In the upcoming years, she plans to continue working but reduce her hours to focus more on writing and publishing efforts. She also intends to travel more frequently and remain an advocate for good mental health practices.
