BAYSIDE, NY, April 11, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Marquis Who’s Who, the world’s premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Susan A. Rotenberg, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Rotenberg celebrates many years’ experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An expert in biochemistry and biology, Dr. Rotenberg is a highly respected academic whose research has contributed to a deeper understanding of cancer. As a professor at Queens College, she oversees a laboratory that explores how components of signaling pathways convey their signals in cancer cells, with a specific focus on protein kinase C-regulated signaling pathways that impact the characteristics of mammary cells. Her innovative work often involves collaborations with electrochemist Michael Mirkin, with whom she is developing a new interface between cancer biology and electrochemistry, a field that had not been explored before. Since joining the Queens College faculty in 1990, Dr. Rotenberg has held several administrative leadership appointments, including two years as chair of the Department of Chemistry/Biochemistry and two years as interim dean of the Division of Math & Natural Sciences.

Dr. Rotenberg’s fascination with science was sparked when she was just 12 years old; a curious child growing up in Attleboro, Massachusetts, she became fascinated by the discovery process and enjoyed participating in science fairs. Her passion for science only grew stronger over time, as she believed that there was nothing quite as exhilarating as contributing to the advancement of human knowledge. Despite not coming from a family of scientists — her father, Henry Rotenberg, was a lawyer — her upbringing was heavily influenced by his discussions of the rules of evidence at the dinner table, which fueled her interest in science even further.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Connecticut College in 1975, Dr. Rotenberg obtained a Master of Science in chemistry from Hahnemann Medical College and a PhD in chemistry from Brown University. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Rockefeller University.

Among her many professional achievements throughout her career, Dr. Rotenberg is particularly proud of her consistent track record of groundbreaking research, including several cancer research grants from the National Institutes of Health and funding from the Gustavus and Louise Pfieffer Research Foundation and the Elsa University Pardee Cancer Research Foundation. She is a frequent contributor to academic journals and holds patents for dequalinium analogues in sunscreens.

When she is not advancing her research, Dr. Rotenberg enjoys swimming, traveling and creative writing. She looks forward to writing a memoir.
