Having accrued more than two decades of expertise in engineering and consulting, Dr. Susan O. Schall currently excels as the founder and lead consultant of SOS Consulting, LLC, which transforms small U.S. manufacturing workplaces into places that work for all to compete today and tomorrow.

Alongside her primary ventures, Dr. Schall is an authorized partner of John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team and Everything DSC. Furthermore, she has been a consultant for the ABET Foundation, Inc., and served on the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) and board of directors. Earlier in her career, she served as a consulting engineer and a technical superintendent at DuPont from 1990 to 1998 and CI methodology director at R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Inc. from 2002 to 2004.

From an early age, Dr. Schall possessed an innate interest in mathematics and the sciences, furthering her desire to enter the engineering profession. Today, she is a proud ASQ Certified Engineer, Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence, and recently became certified in the Six Types of Working Genius. In this respect, she is dedicated to creating healthy organizations and teams that, in turn, build healthy communities. Civically engaged, Dr. Schall is a former member of the Industrial and Professional Advisory Council in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at her alma mater, Pennsylvania State University. She is also past president, vice president and a board member of the Penn State Engineering Society. Notably, Dr. Schall has contributed a myriad of articles to professional journals, most recently “The Essential Leader” in Industrial Management, September/October 2022.

Dr. Schall attended the State University of New York at Fredonia, receiving a Bachelor of Science in mathematics in 1981. She went on to matriculate at the Pennsylvania State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering in 1982, a Master of Science in industrial engineering in 1986 and a Doctor of Philosophy in industrial engineering in 1988.

To attest to her success, Dr. Schall was honored with Engineering Excellence Bronze and Silver Awards from DuPont Engineering in 1990 and 1992, respectively, and the Medallion Award from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers in 2018, which also elected her a fellow in 2020. Additionally, she has earned numerous alumni awards from Pennsylvania State University.
