The Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation was established after the founder’s visit to Nigeria in 2008. Taiwo Ajisefinni noticed on a certain day that children were leaving school to go to their different houses and saw that many of them were not dressed appropriately and while some had school bags, others already did not. No matter how much she complained or whimpered, she noticed that nothing changed, and then it dawned on her that she was the one who needed to change. Taiwo had to stop complaining and do something. Taiwo had to make this image a reality in their imagination and the Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation (TAF) came into being.
Registered in Nigeria and the UK, the foundation seeks to provide educational support in a variety of ways to children, particularly those from poor and underprivileged backgrounds. In our first school project, a primary school in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria, over 100 students have benefited from the services provided. Interestingly, since the completion of the first phase of the project at this school, parents and relatives of children in the community and surrounding villages have shown an interest in enrolling their children in the school.
Education is not only the imparting of knowledge, but also the acquisition of teaching content and life experiences. Quality education is therefore about the teacher and what is being taught: the student. Education is and always will be very important to build a strong foundation in one’s life. Our children need to be educated, kept up to date on current affairs and empowered to pass knowledge on to the next generation. Education is an important building block in building a stronger and healthier community. As a community, we need to help a child develop their identity and contribute to society. We need to refocus on the idea that a child is the center of our community.
The focus of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 is to ensure children have access to quality education and reduce the number of children out of school. TAF plans to go wherever our services are needed. We are working to get as many people on board as possible to be a support system and network for the NGO. Together we can do more.
The Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation wants to support schools in a healthy way. Our goal is to support everyone in the education chain – teachers and students alike. As we provide students with a conducive learning atmosphere, we also ensure that teachers have everything they need to provide a quality education – training and teaching tools and ultimately achieve all learning outcomes.
Together, school after school, we can bring hope, support, educate, and transform the lives of school children.
TAF has completed phase 1 of its school project to rebuild and refurbish a school. Join us www.gofundme.com/f/blaze-a-trail-with-taf as we begin work on Phase 2 by raising £2,000 to provide stationery for 100 children.
