Teenage Cancer Trust are pleased to announce that Professor Rachael Hough has joined their Board of Trustees.
Professor Hough is Consultant in Hematology and Stem Cell Transplantation at UCLH and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Hematology/Transplantation at UCL. As such, she is the Clinical Director of the UK’s largest teenage cancer service and has developed a youth focused transplant practice.
Professor Hough said: “I am delighted to join the Teenage Cancer Trust’s Board of Trustees – it is a privilege to join an organization whose core value of putting the needs of young people living with cancer at the heart of everything it does resonates so closely with mine own values. We are at a time when the professional support and care of young people with cancer is more important than ever and having worked closely with the Teenage Cancer Trust for so many years I look forward to continuing to work with them and to help them in the process help make an even bigger impact for young people living with cancer in the UK.”
The appointment was confirmed by Paul Spanswick, Chair of the Teenage Cancer Trust, who said: “I am delighted to welcome Rachael to the Teenage Cancer Trust Board of Trustees. She brings with her extensive frontline clinical experience in the treatment of cancer in young adults, which I know will complement the capabilities of our existing trustees. Your knowledge will help ensure we continue to put the needs of young people and their families at the heart of what we do.”
Kate Collins, Chief Executive of the Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “I am delighted to be working with Rachael, along with Paul and the wider Board of Trustees, as we continue the impact we are having on young people living with cancer in the UK strengthen.
“Young people living with cancer never needed us again and it is excellent news that a clinician with Rachael’s expertise and reputation in the field of teenage and young adult cancer is joining our board. Rachael has always been a tremendous advocate and ally for young people and the charity and we are all very grateful that she dedicates her time to us in this way.”
Every day seven young people between the ages of 13 and 24 hear the words “You have cancer”. They all need specialized care and support to get through them. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to this vital need.
Professor Hough’s appointment brings additional clinical expertise to the Board, which currently consists of Trustees Vimi Grewal-Carr, Ronnie Harris, Carrie Hindmarsh, Sue Morgan, Richard Rosenberg, Jeremy Seigal, Varda Shine, Jeremy Shute and Rich Waterworth.
The Teenage Cancer Trust’s senior team has also been strengthened with the addition of George Crockford, who is joining as Director of Finance, Performance and Corporate Governance.
George, who is a Fellow of the Institute of Charted Accountants, has previously worked in the National Audit Office and local government and is Honorary Treasurer of the National Deaf Children’s Society.
George said: “Teenage Cancer Trust rightly has an excellent reputation for the amazing work they do. I am particularly excited to join a charity that is so committed to improving inclusion and equity for young people. I look forward to contributing to their outstanding work.”
