Rob Henderson, former British and Irish Lions rugby player Sir Richard Stilgoe and councilor Jackie Wren were among 50 guests at the Head2Head Sensory Theater in Oxted this week to celebrate the opening of the venue’s accessible hygiene room with hoist and changing bed.

Funded by the Wooden Spoon Children’s Charity of Rugby, the hygiene room is the latest refurbishment and another step in the conversion of the old milking parlor into a refurbished community space. It is hoped that it will be included in the UK’s Changing Places Toilets list, benefiting both local and visiting wheelchair users.

Representatives from The Wooden Spoon, Orpheus Center students, volunteers, actors and the local community were present as Rob Henderson unveiled a plaque. He then sang and co-signed “Walking on Sunshine” with students from the Orpheus Center.

Anni Rhodes-Steere, Founder of Head2Head, said: “This is a major milestone in the barn renovation and we are honored to have Rob and Sir Richard join us for this celebration.”

The accessible theater charity has been based in Drewshearne Barn since 2022 and has reached the second phase of their call to Your Fund Surrey to create a livable space for the local and special needs communities of Tandridge and Surrey.

Anni continued, “Our community wants to use the barn as a safe place to meet and offer social events, fitness classes, workshops, a coffee shop and a free lending library.”

“In addition, the charity will use the space to film online shows for schools and families around the world and provide live performances for disabled children and their families in Surrey.”

Head2Head Sensory Theater is a small accessible theater charity that creates imaginative ways to make theater and film accessible to everyone. The charity is growing as a brand in the special needs community worldwide with shows accessible through its YouTube learning channel.
