Wendy Elmore Honored by Marquis Who’s Who for Dedication to Special Education

Ms. Elmore was named the special education coordinator of Grow Academy Shafter, formerly Grimmway Academy Shafter, in 2017, and she excels in empathetic partnerships with a diverse student population. She initiated her career as an educator by teaching an after-school reading program before transitioning to a position in special education with the Rosedale Union School District; from 2005 to 2015, Ms. Elmore identified a passion for working with emotionally challenged students and developed a clear and consistent position advocating for full inclusion into the general education population. Ms. Elmore subsequently accepted an appointment with Kern High School District in 2015, where she thrived through 2017.

Distinguished academic credentials define Ms. Elmore’s profile and include coursework at Bakersfield Junior College and a bachelor’s degree in social work from Long Beach State University. Ms. Elmore subsequently pursued graduate studies and earned a Master of Arts in special education in 1989. Notably, she was part of the adjunct faculty at National University, where she shared her knowledge and mentored undergraduate students.

Ms. Elmore was humbled to accept a Teacher of the Year Award, and looking toward the future, she remains enthusiastic about persisting in her critical work with the Academy in establishing an effective and comprehensive special education program. Ms. Elmore may also pursue consultancy work with a new charter school project as its administrators explore the opportunity to open in the region.
