Dr. Tita is a distinguished academic and social entrepreneur with a career spanning more than 50 years. He is renowned for his many decades as a business professor at universities in the Boston area; social entrepreneurship; translational research; and initiating various projects at the university level. Dr. Tita also served as an adjunct professor at Boston College’s Wallace E. Carroll School of Management, a position he has held since 2007. His tenure at Boston College marked the latest chapter in a long and illustrious academic career.
Prior to his retirement, Dr. Tita served as a professor at Northeastern University in Boston from 1980 to 2014. During this period, he was instrumental in developing curricula that bridged theoretical knowledge with practical application, fostering a generation of students who have gone on to make significant impacts in their respective fields. Before this extended tenure, he was also a professor at the University of Pittsburgh from 1970 to 1980, where he laid the groundwork for his future contributions to academia.
Dr. Tita has also made significant contributions to student activism and has worked on an international scale. He received a secondment to the United Nations from 1990 through 2001. On September 11, 2001, Dr. Tiga was at the World Trade Center in New York City when the terrorist attacks on the towers took place.
In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Tita founded the pioneering computer services company IOCS-AI in Cameroon, and is the owner of GMC Trade Information Network (GMC-TIN), where he applies his expertise in business and society and social entrepreneurship to real-world challenges. His entrepreneurial spirit and strategic acumen have been pivotal in driving the success of these ventures. Dr. Tita has been recognized by the International Development Agencies, notably the World Bank, as a pioneer and expert in distance learning, as well as in keeping developing countries within reach of the emerging information society and networked economy.
Dr. Tita’s educational background is both extensive and impressive. He started his academic career in the 1960s, earning a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Duke University. He then earned a master’s degree in business administration and a PhD in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Tita also did a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Southern California as a Kent Fellow in Social Ethics. These academic achievements have been fundamental to his professional success and have equipped him with a diverse skill set that he has leveraged throughout his career.
Among his many accolades, Dr. Tita was honored as the first African American to receive a PhD in business from the University of Pittsburgh.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Tita enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife, two children, and seven grandchildren. His hobbies include soccer, table tennis, and watching basketball and boxing.
