HOLLYWOOD, FL. – A former NFL player has been arrested for a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge after cops said his vehicle struck a pickup truck parked at the side of a South Florida freeway because of a flat tire, and the driver of the truck stood outside injured.

Vontae Davis, 34, smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, and could barely stay awake when he was interviewed by a police officer after the crash on the Florida Turnpike in Hollywood, Fla., early Saturday, according to a report by the Florida Highway patrol

According to police, Davis lost control of his Tesla sedan and collided with the parked pickup truck on the side of the turnpike. The force of the impact slammed the pickup truck into a concrete barrier, hitting its driver who had been waiting outside. The driver was taken to a hospital with multiple injuries, the report said.

Davis refused to provide a blood or urine sample and would not agree to do an on-site sobriety test, the report said. He told the police officer that he had two drinks at a club.

An online court filing did not list an attorney for Davis.

Davis is perhaps best known for announcing his retirement in 2018 in the middle of a game between his then-team, the Buffalo Bills, and the Los Angeles Chargers. Davis also played for the Indianapolis Colts and the Miami Dolphins.
