ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – History was made at Jones High School in Orange County this week when 2023 graduate Max’Ceon Cobb signed with a Division 1 school.

Jones High head coach Elijah Williams said Cobb was the first kicker in high school history to receive a full scholarship to a D1 school.

“Honestly, I never thought this day would come,” Cobb said.

Surrounded by his family, mentors and coaches, Cobb proudly announced last Wednesday that in a few weeks he would be going to South Carolina State University to play football.

He said he received several offers before graduating in May but was hoping for a D1 offer.

“At first I didn’t know which school to choose, but with the help of a few family members, co-workers and a few friends, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to attend a historic HBCU, so South Carolina State made the move,” Cobb said.

He said his coaches have always been by his side, as has his mother, who offered words of encouragement at his signing ceremony last Wednesday.

“It’s been tough, but know that as long as you persevere and keep pushing and you have people behind you and pushing, you can do it.”

Cobb said it was the same encouragement and inspiration his late father gave him and his older brother when they were children. Cobb said he hopes it makes his father proud.

“He’s proud of me, I know, much more than anyone will ever be. That’s what he wanted from me, and now the next mission is to go there, graduate and go to the NFL,” Cobb said.
