McGuire takes Orlando City to a 2-1 win over Atlanta United

ATLANTA – Rookie Duncan McGuire scored the only goal of the second half to lead Orlando City to a 2-1 win over Atlanta United on Saturday night.

Defender Caleb Wiley gave Atlanta United (9-7-8) an early lead with his fourth goal of the season, scoring in the 22nd minute without an assist.

Three minutes later, defender Antônio Carlos answered for Orlando City (10-6-7). Carlos used an assist from Mauricio Pereyra to hit the net for the first time since the 2021 season when he scored twice.

Pereyra received another assist for McGuire’s green goal in the 60th minute. McGuire has eight goals and two assists in nine starts and 18 appearances.

Pedro Gallese made two saves for Orlando City. Brad Guzan saved two shots for Atlanta United.

Atlanta United are 2-4-5 against Orlando City in their last 11 games after winning six straight games in all competitions. Atlanta United is falling to 7-2-3 at home this season, with their first loss in their last six games there. The club had scored at least two goals in five consecutive home games. It was their longest multiple-goal streak at home since an eight-game streak in 2019.

Orlando City, who lost 4-0 away at Real Salt Lake, have not lost twice in a row all season. After the losses this season, the club stands at 4-0-2.

When the league returns to action on August 20, Orlando City travels to the Chicago Fire. Atlanta United will travel to play the Seattle Sounders when play resumes.
