ORLANDO, Fla. – The new starting quarterback for the UCF Knights was arrested in Arkansas Wednesday as part of a misdemeanor charge from last year.

KJ Jefferson turned himself into Fayetteville, Arkansas police over a reckless driving case from last spring. He was booked into the jail and released about 20 minutes later.

According to UCF, Jefferson was traveling fast enough over the speed limit to be charged with a misdemeanor for reckless driving, but the charge was not processed until after Jefferson moved to Central Florida and enrolled at UCF.

A spokesperson for the school says it has been aware of the case.

Coach Gus Malzhan said in a statement to News 6 sports director Jamie Seh, “I have been fully aware of this situation that took place in May 2023 prior to his arrival at UCF. Since KJ has been here, he’s been a great leader and an exemplary member of our program.”

Jefferson transferred to UCF this winter after four years at the University of Arkansas.
