WIMBLEDON – Novak Djokovic is aiming for a record-breaking eighth place finish Wimbledon Individual championship and fifth in a row.
Carlos Alcaráz tries for his first trophy the All England Club.
Djokovic wants his 24th Grand Slam title. Alcaraz wants his second.
The stakes are high Djokovic and Alcaraz meet on Center Court for Sunday’s Wimbledon final.
Also, there’s the following: Alcaraz, a 20-year-old Spaniard, is No. 1 and Djokovic, a 36-year-old Serb, is No. 2. In addition to the Wimbledon trophy, the winner receives the highest ATP ranking.
This is a repeat of the showdown between Alcaraz and Djokovic in the French Open semifinals last month.
The first two sets were great and every man won one. But then cramps took over Alcaraz – he later said he believed nerves were the main culprit – and Djokovic won the disappointing final two sets 6-1, 6-1.
Marketa Vondrousova won her first Grand Slam title on Saturday by defeating Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 in the women’s final.
