CORTINA D’AMPEZZO – CORTINA D’The pursuit of American skier Mikaela Shiffrin of the record 83rd World Cup victory will move on to the next stop on the circuit.

Shiffrin finished seventh in a Super-G on Sunday, 0.62s behind race winner Ragnhild Mowinckel to mark the third consecutive event in Cortina this weekend she missed the podium.

Your next chances of breaking a tie with former teammate Lindsey Vonn The women’s record is at stake on Tuesday and Wednesday in two giant slaloms in the Kronplatz ski area in nearby St. Vigil in Marebbe.

Mowinckel finished 0.30 seconds ahead of Cornelia Hütter and 0.47 seconds on Marta Bassino on the course that will be used for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.

Italy’s leader Sofia Goggia sat out the race after falling a day earlier due to pain in her right knee.

Shiffrin was on track to finish on the podium until near the end of her run, just before the final jump into the finish area, she strayed wide from the ideal line. She shook her head slightly as she saw her time, which at the time was good for second place behind Bassino.

“I made a little mistake with my timing on the last corner of the course,” Shiffrin said. “And of course it’s pretty flat down here, so you lose some speed. But it was a pretty strong run.”

It was the third career win for Mowinckel, who won silver medals in both downhill and giant slalom at the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics before missing the entire 2019-20 season with a serious knee injury.

“I was generally surprised when I saw my time because I knew the race was close,” Mowinckel said.

The race launched straight into the Tofana Dash, a chute between two cliffs that forms the steepest part of the course, and accelerated the skiers’ speeds to up to 115 km/h (70 mph) as they zigzagged down the mountain.

If Shiffrin doesn’t win at San Vigilio, her next races will be two slaloms – her best event with 51 of her 82 wins – in Spindleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic, next weekend. Shiffrin made her World Cup debut there in March 2011 at the age of 15.
