MONTVERDE, Fla. – Evy DeClercq is one of many dominant players on the girls’ volleyball team at Montverde Academy.
The senior middle hitter has been playing volleyball since she was 4 years old. DeClercq watched how much fun her older sister was having, and she wanted that for herself.
DeClercq comes from an athletic family. Her dad, Andrew DeClercq, played for the Florida Gators before spending nearly a decade in the NBA.
But volleyball is Evy’s calling, and she’s loved all four years playing on the varsity team.
“We have a lot of girls from other countries who’ve been recruited to the team,” DeClercq told News 6. “We have a young team this year; there is only two seniors, but they have a lot of potential, a lot of skills, a lot of talent…This team has crazy energy. I feel like we’re always cheering, dancing and having a good time. It makes it a lot of fun… The girls have such good heart and love the sport, and it makes playing volleyball so much more fun.”
