PHILADELPHIA — Zack Wheeler went without a hit in seven innings for the Philadelphia Phillies against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.
The right-hander has eight strikeouts and one walkout. He has thrown 100 shots, 70 of them for strikes.
Philadelphia leads 1-0 through Bryce Harper’s sixth-round sacrificial flight.
The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night but was postponed due to poor air quality caused by smoke from Canadian wildfires. The smoky smell that had dominated Philadelphia for the past two days dissipated and the skies cleared as the game progressed.
Wheeler, 33, knocked out four of his first six batters. He is in his third season on a five-year, $118 million contract with the Phillies.
