Porsche has entered into a rather unexpected collaboration with seat maker RECARO to produce a gaming chair based on the former’s sports cars.
With the rather unsexy nickname RECARO x Porsche Gaming Chair Limited Edition (opens in new tab)the chair leans more toward comfort than race car-inspired fashion — and that’s probably a good thing.
Gaming chairs are notoriously lacking in ergonomics as manufacturers tend to prioritize flashy looks over comfort. And if you play or work for hours, you will definitely start to experience lower back pain. To address this head-on, the Porsche Gaming Chair features an “anti-submarining seat ramp,” meaning the cushion sits at an upward angle, and “firm lumbar support.” All of this rests on a lightweight aluminum base, allowing gamers to sit comfortably in the chair and not worry about it slipping off.
Porsche adds that the chair is made of “high-quality upholstery foam and breathable fabrics” for year-round comfort; definitely a welcome feature for the hot summer days. And the last notable feature is the 5D armrest, which can be adjusted in numerous ways for the perfect fit. All in all, you can play in an upright sitting position without struggling with back pain. It’s always good practice to get up after hours of sitting and stretch your legs a bit (speaking from experience).
Availability
The Porsche Gaming Chair Limited Edition stays true to its name and will indeed be limited to 911 pieces. This seemingly random number is most likely a reference to the latest car model, the Porsche 911 GT3 R. Pre-orders are available now for a whopping $2,499. The shipping date is set for March 15th.
If the Porsche Gaming Chair looks familiar, that’s because it’s almost identical to Exo Platinum Sky by RECARO (opens in new tab). According to the product page, both chairs are made from the same breathable fabrics, have the same 5D armrest, the same aluminum base and have a weight capacity of up to 150 kg (330 lbs). The only real differences seem to be the exterior design: the Porsche Gaming Chair matches the look of the 911 GT3 R and even has the car’s logo embroidered on the headrest.
It seems Porsche’s chair is a more expensive US version of Exo Platinum Sky. This chair costs 1,249 euros (approx. 1,350 USD).
We reached out to Porsche to clarify if this is US-only or shipping worldwide. This story will be updated when we get feedback.
