Nvidia’s RTX 4070 Tiwhich is rumored to be close to launch, could retail for $799, according to the GPU’s latest findings.
VideoCardz (opens in new tab) reports that multiple sources in China claim that the RTX 4070 Ti will be at least 10% cheaper than the canceled RTX 4080 12GB, with both models being essentially the same graphic card (At least that’s based on the leaked core specs for the 4070 Ti; we’ll come back to that as there have been fresh spills elsewhere on this front).
If you remember the botched RTX 4080 12GB, which was quickly “unlaunched” by Nvidia, retailing at a suggested price of $899 in the US. Saving 10% gets you to $810, which means the RTX 4070 Ti’s MSRP will likely be $799 (it would be weird to sell it above the $800 mark at $10 place).
To substantiate that Wccftech (opens in new tab) claims Nvidia has told its graphics card makers MSRP is $799 and YouTube leaker Moore’s Law is dead (opens in new tab) also mentions the same price in his rumor mill.
Elsewhere was the spec of the RTX 4070 Ti again rumored to be 7,680 CUDA coreswith a boost clock of 2.61 GHz, and this time this information comes from a leak from Nvidia France, which accidentally published the specifications on its website and rushed the weapon ahead of the upcoming launch (according to a tweet (opens in new tab) by @momomo_us).
Analysis: A predictable turn in price events
The supposed RRP seems about right to us – a round number that always seemed likely although we were really hoping that Nvidia would drop a little cheaper to $749 – and with multiple sources confirming this just ahead of the RTX 4070 Ti’s launch, it’s more likely that this is on the money, so to speak. Still, you never know, the GPU could get even cheaper as this is just a rumor.
In any case, it’s rather unlikely that Nvidia would offer the RTX 4070 Ti at a higher price, or at least that’s what we always thought, really releasing it at the same or very similar price as the canceled RTX 4080 12GB would push things forward . Team Green has already lost enough goodwill with their high pricing of Lovelace GPUs we recently discussed at length in our round-up of the year Nvidia had in 2022.
Mind you, the potential downside is that the RTX 4070 Ti doesn’t have a Founders Edition, meaning it’s not a board that Nvidia produces and sells itself. Since all RTX 4070 Ti graphics cards are manufactured by their partners, they are also priced by those partners – which means the MSRP is all well and good, but third-party manufacturers may well exceed it.
Granted, there are certainly entry-level RTX 4070 Ti boards priced at this MSRP – the pricier being models with higher clock speeds and more expensive components plus associated coolers – it’s just a question of how many low-end cards will be on the shelves. And how long they’ll stay available, even more important when people are rushing to get a relatively affordable slice of Lovelace action (and scalpers are inevitably involved, too).
