You may have thought of every aspect of what is to come Samsung Galaxy S23 Phones had been leaked at the time, but that wasn’t the case – the rumor mill keeps bringing more information about these flagship devices ahead of their February 1st launch.
Today we received another tidbit of information from well-known leak providers ice universe (opens in new tab) (about GSMArena (opens in new tab)) who visited Chinese social media platform Weibo to share some details about the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s portrait video mode.
The source says the mode will be able to record in a 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, with the phone offering relatively good heat control so the processing power required to capture clips in this mode won’t overheat the phone.

We did not do it very impressive with the portrait video mode on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, especially when compared to the cinema mode on the iPhone. Either way, the subject of a video stays in focus while the background blurs.
The current Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra can record normal video in 8K resolution at 24 frames per second or in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. In portrait format, this goes up to a resolution of 1080p at 30 frames per second.
It is unclear whether the other two Galaxy S23 models will get the portrait mode or not this time. All will be revealed when Samsung’s next Unpacked launch event rolls around, and it is only a few weeks away.
Analysis: a story of two sensors
Based on the rumours we have heard so far, we expect the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to be equipped with the new 200 MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor that Samsung has unveiled. The Standard and Plus models are rumored to be sticking with a 50-megapixel main sensor.
That should mean the Ultra model is the one to offer the most extensive camera upgrades over last year’s models. So far we’ve heard that the night vision capabilities will be betterand we have seen sample footage for comparison purposes.
There has also been talk that Samsung is Adding more modes on the software side to go with Hardware improvements. From a photo and video perspective, you should be able to do more than ever with the upcoming Galaxy S23 phones.
In fact, it’s been talked about so much that we think the Galaxy S23 Ultra could be one of the best camera phones of the year – and maybe even is have more to offer as whatever Apple plans to do with the cameras on the iPhone 15.
