UN chief condemns DPRK missile launch

According to news reports, the DPRK on Saturday fired a long-range missile that landed in the sea in Japan’s exclusive economic zone, prompting the United States to hold joint air exercises with Japan and the Republic of Korea on Sunday.

News reports on Monday said the DPRK had used a 600mm multiple rocket launcher to launch two additional rockets.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterresin one opinion who was released by his spokesman, reiterated his call for the DPRK to immediately refrain from any further provocative measures.

He also urged Pyongyang to fully honor its international obligations under all relevant UN bodies Security Council resolutions and the resumption of dialogue leading to lasting peace and the full and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Monday afternoon on the issue.
