    Celebrate Women’s History Month with one of these local events

    Women’s History Month runs throughout the month of March to celebrate the contributions women have made across the board. business, politics, entertainment, art and as leaders in society. There are several events throughout Central Florida that aim to honor the month.

    Choose one below to attend.

    ORANGE

    3 March: Frida Kahlo Craft & Collage Children learn how Frida Kahlo’s art influenced our history through books, activities and crafts. Fairview Shores Branch Orange County Library System.

    3 March: Celebration of advancing women’s economic empowerment A 100 Women Strong event designed to celebrate achievement and provide an opportunity for philanthropists to meet. Members and non-members welcome.

    7th March: Bridging global opportunities for women-led businesses Join the Women’s Business Development Council of Florida & Puerto Rico and our host, the Central Florida International Trade Office, in an event focused on improving the conversation for women-owned businesses and the need to level the playing field around the world to ignite equity and business growth.

    8th of March: OCLS women make history Recognize the influence of powerful women who have made great contributions to our history through stories, crafts and activities. Recommended for families with lower and upper elementary school students. Hiawassee Branch Orange County Library System.

    8th of March: Food as medicine: The healthy diet of women Join Allison Harrell, Registered Dietitian and Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist, and Ameigh Worley, MD, Board-Certified OB/GYN at AdventHealth, at the Center for Health & Wellbeing’s Nutrition Theater for a meal that puts women’s health first stands. You can also participate virtually.

    8th of March: Women in Leadership Panel: A Discussion on Leadership and Career Advancement Join us to learn from respected professionals trusted to lead and direct PR and marketing programs for leading brands in Florida and beyond.

    9th March: Women on the move in ONYX Magazine ONYX Magazine, in partnership with founding partner Orlando Health, is hosting ONYX Magazine’s 8th Annual Women on the Move event, a celebration of Florida’s most influential and impactful black women with an evening of inspiration, networking and entertainment. Tickets cost $25.

    9th March: 4th Annual Women’s History Month Breakfast The Orange County Regional History Center presents its fourth annual Women’s History Month Breakfast honoring pioneering Orlando architects Ida Annah Ryan and Isabel Roberts. Tickets are $35.

    9th March: Pow-HER-Ful With great power comes great responsibility. Discover the shared empowering qualities of well-known women like Simone Biles, Frida Kahlo, Jane Goodall and more. Recommended for 3-5 years. South Creek Branch of the Orange County Library System.

    9th March: woman skirt! Listen, sing along, and discover some of the rebellious ladies who rocked the music world. Recommended for tweens and teens. Eatonville Branch of the Orange County Library System.

    March 18: Fly up Design, fold and test paper airplanes in tribute to famous women who dared to fly. Recommended for families. Available at West Oaks and Fairview Shores Branches of the Orange County Library System.

    March, 20th: Woman’s Story: A Snapshot Delve into the little-known history of women on a guided tour. Recommended for ages 6-12. Eatonville Branch of the Orange County Library System.

    March 24: Women united in worship Join the African American Women’s History Month Project, Inc. to celebrate our 25th Anniversary as we celebrate 25 amazing women. This will be a wonderful worship opportunity for women from all walks of life. Bring your friends, family, sisters and friends to celebrate our bond of faith together.

    25th March: Queens Walking in Purpose Business Empowerment Brunch An event designed to connect with other motivated individuals, gain valuable insight and learn from the industry’s rising stars.

    25th March: Stepping N2 sorority Orlando This isn’t just a networking and women’s empowerment event, it’s a celebration of the power women of color have when we choose to work together and support one another.

    March 29: wonder women Admire the contributions of some amazing women in history with clever little things and brilliant activities. Recommended for ages 6-12. Available at West Oaks and Washington Park Branches of the Orange County Library System.

    March 31: 4th Bi-Annual Forum for Women Leadership in Hospitality Celebrating Women’s History Month, this event brings together industry leaders, professionals and students to promote leadership. It is presented by UCF’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management Diversity & Inclusion Committee and the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality Students (NSMH).

    OSCEOLA

    4th of March: Woman story from the afterlife Presented by local historian Larisa Roderick. Walking Library Series program. Meeting point: Mt. Peace Cemetery at 755 East 10th Street in St. Cloud. Hiking shoes and water recommended.

    March 18: She cultivates within Join us for a time to feel empowered and learn from licensed mental health counselor, speaker and educator Maria Fernandez. Part of loving yourself is knowing yourself. We will spend time reflecting and discussing issues about how to maintain positive relationships with ourselves and others.

    March 18: A Day in the Life: Women Pioneers of St. Cloud Join us for an exciting live performance by the Women’s Club of St. Cloud, FL, depicting the daily life of early settlers in St. Cloud, FL.

    SEMINOLE

    6th March: Movie Night for Women’s History Month: Little Women The North Branch Library is showing the film “little woman” (PG) on Monday, March 6, from 5:30 p.m.

    March 13: Movie night for Women’s History Month: Wonder Woman The North Branch Library is showing the film “wonder woman” (PG-13) on Monday, March 13 from 5:30 p.m.

    the 14th of March: Women’s Rights from National to Sanford To mark 100 years of American women’s suffrage, we join guest speaker Brigitte Stephenson from the Henry Shelton Sanford Memorial Library and Museum to look at the somewhat bumpy progression of women’s rights from the national level to our local community.

    March 18: Timeline of Women’s History Join living historians dressed in the fashions of yesteryear as they experience the struggles for the right to vote, entry into the workforce, the war and home fronts, and the civil rights movement through the eyes and voices of the women of Seminole County.

    March 23: Movie Night for Women’s History Month: Hidden Figures In honor of Women’s History Month, visit our librarian to watch and then discuss the film Hidden Figures. Demonstration at 5:00 p.m. in the central branch.

    March 24: League of Women Voters of Seminole County Hot Topic A virtual conversation with Serita Beamon, the first African American Superintendent of Seminole County Public Schools.

    27th of March: Movie Night for Women’s History Month: Selena The North Branch Library is showing the film “Selena” (PG) on Monday, March 27 from 5:30 p.m.

    BREVARD

    All March: Exhibition of vintage women’s clothing The historic Pritchard House Museum features a collection of antique and vintage clothing throughout March. Guided tours of the restored 1891 home are conducted by costumed docents by prior reservation

    March 22: women who rock Since 2012, we’ve hosted the Women Who Rock Awards in Brevard County to raise the profile of local women who do great work and lead through action. The winners will be announced at the award luncheon.

    LAKE

    17. March: women in jazz Since the early 1920s, women have not only been active in jazz as singers, but also as instrumentalists, composers and arrangers. An understanding of jazz would not be complete without emphasizing the influence and contributions of women – women like Bessie Smith, Valaida Snow, Mildred Bailey, Mary Lou Williams, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn.     25th March: Meet Rosie the Riveter Learn about the fascinating story of working women during World War II, as well as the enduring legacy of Rosie the Riveter as a symbol of patriotism and excellence in the workplace. Angie Morthland, American representative of the Rosie the Riveter Association and retired educator, presents stories about Rosie the Riveter and the home front of World War II. WT Bland Public Library (Mount Dora).

    VOLUSIA

    3 March: The Members’ Showcase at the Gallery500 Opening Reception Throughout the month of March, Gallery500, a contemporary art gallery at ONE DAYTONA, will host the Florida Women’s Arts Association Member Showcase, in celebration of Women’s History Month. Participants are invited to a complimentary reception on March 3rd from 5pm to 7pm where they can meet the artists and explore their work.

    4th of March: Dapper DeLand presents women in history Dapper DeLand celebrates and honors the women in history who kept America running during the country’s hardships of the 1930’s-1940’s.

    25th March: Dante’s Divas of R&B in concert Join Grammy-winning artist Jeanine McAdams alongside Mitessa Jones, Tangela Facen, Faith Nathan, Michele Bunker and Christina D Brown for A Dante Production’s Women’s History Month concert.

    POLK

    the 14th of March: Eternal femininity: piano duets celebrate women in music You are cordially invited to join Fen-Fang Chen and Christy Sallee for an evening of piano duets celebrating women in music. Consisting of selections written by renowned women composers, the program will include rarely heard gems such as the Sonata for Two Pianos by Germaine Tailleferre and Six Valses-Caprice, Op. 87 by Mel Bonis and more. Free admission.

    March 16: Lecture Series: Florida’s Women Pioneers dr Peggy Macdonald examines some of the women who shaped Florida, including Dr. Esther Hill Hawks, Harriet Beecher Stow, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, Betty Mae Tiger Jumper, May Mann Jennings and Florida’s “Three Marjorie(y)s” – Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Marjorie Harris Carr and Marjory Stoneman Douglas.

    March 29: 2023 Annual International Women’s Business Summit Join us for our annual women’s festival. Expo, forums and job fair are available. Plus a segment for women aged 50 PLUS.
